Red Sun files up on server

Abe, I've just uploaded redsun files onto the server. It's under the folder "lalala". The files are in AI format. Each is pretty huge (~8 MB) therefore I've prepared JPEG files, too. You can just use the JPEGs first and then copy the AI files from me on Monday. Btw, when opening the AI files you might need to relink some images.

i dont think theres any problem with using existing images as long as they are copyright free, so if u can find ones that suit, use em.

the buttons looks a lot better now!

like i said before, about getting them done by the weekend (well, friday night) can you post the photoshop files on the server for me? and dont include any layers that arent being used to save filesize...

ok and here is the final decision on what pages Eclipse's site will have (the naming can change, im just talking about content):

PS: Abe, which "square of plain colour" are you referring to? Is it the square surrounding the title of each page (eg. the square around "our story")?

Alternative images for main page

Since the original mockup has images that are bound by copyright, here are 2 alternative images for the main page that are free-to-use:

This one is not bad (still showing the difference in age and also artistically shot), although the colour is now B/W and loses that 'bright' feeling...

This image still shows interaction between two people although it doesn't fit with the caption that well... (of course captions can be changed)

It's hard to find a free-to-use and perfect replacement for the image in original mockup... Personally I quite like the first image, maybe the issue is just the colour. What do you guys think?

We can shoot a photo similar to the original one, but well, the lighting' and everything else's gotta be really good to look professional.

Anyway, this is just for main page. The image for 'members' page is another copyrighted image, so I still have to keep looking...

LOVELY!!!

you are using a lot of photography however, which could be an issue. you need to make 2 categories: photos u can get from Stock images on the web that are copy right free, and photos we will need to shoot ourselves...might need to make an appointment and get several people into the green-screen studio...ill leave the details up to you william...

theres only 2 small things i think could be improved: the square of plain colour on each of the pages...i think it makes it a bit too cluttered. and the links, i think people may have trouble knowing they are links...if redsun is targeting ALL audiences, maybe they should look more like buttons somehow?...anyway just my personal opinion, what do other people think...

Eclipse mockup:

this is also really good..i love the atmosphere. i prefer the brown text instead of the white tho for some reason... qin, could you do mockups for the remaining pages too?

ill wait till the weekend, before i take these images and make them into draft websites, which everyone can then look at at the proper URLs. so untill the weekend, we can all make some more decisions, make more changes if needed...

Just to make it clear, the current task division for website design is this:

Qin has got some mockups in progress already and it'll be up pretty soon. They are looking good I think.

This section contains history of Red Sun. Most detailed page in the site.

VALUES
This is basically a "what we do" page, but the contents written in "mission & vision" style (I think it's suitable since these "mission & vision" things are always vague anyway).

MEMBERS
Page about things a member do in the community. Just brief description plus a "testimonials" section on the right side.

This is a small site (only 4 pages). All the things that needs to be there are there already (phone number, about, etc). Not sure if it's "mysterious" enough, but I think the mockup does present the organisation in the way they want to look in public.

timeline of info release

to steph,

ok kyles sent everyone an email with the timeline for when certain info can be released. so now you can be creative as u want, as long as u stick to that.

hows the myspace profiles and stuff going? dont forget to keep a log of everything you do so we can find it again!

also, dont limit yourself to stuff on our timeline/task list. u can post stuff on existing forums on the net, other existing discussion boards, and so on...the more the better

researching websites

ok, im here looking at websites right now...

im looking at 'social group' websites since that's what Redsun's site is really... so far all the sites look SO amateurish...

they all have stuff in common, very static, bad composition...i suppose it's because they are just worried about the information, not the look....

but even though most of them look crap, i think Redsun's site should look more professional, since they have a lot of capital...and there's no rule saying that social group website's have to all be crap looking....if we make redsun's stand out with good design, it's more likely to attract more people...

Reachout is an australian based service that helps those in need. it even as a help line and stuff on the site, just like what we want. and this site looks a lot better than others (even tho it has a LOT mroe information that what we want on redsun)
